Cradles to Crayons Daycare

Centerville, Ohio

This daycare was originally designed for 100 children. The building occupies the site of a former farm house and barn. The building’s design recalls the agrarian structures that dotted the rural landscape of the local area.

The form of the building is additive reflected the nature of how barns were altered over years of use. The walls are punched with primary window shapes to provide a playful feeling both interior and exterior to the classrooms.

Classrooms are grouped by two’s with a service core between each unit. The service core is reflected on the exterior with the child-drawn likeness of a house. The central form of the building houses a water play and art area, a two story multi-purpose room and kitchen.
